Manifestation of YAHWEH's Ruach Ha Kodesh in the Old Covenant Prophets
With superiority and distinction above others
The outward manifestation of the Ruach of prophecy is primarily to be viewed as an awesome circumstance.
When YAHWEH takes of the Ruach which was upon Mosheh and distributes it to the seventy elders of Yisrael who are to become assistants to Mosheh in the government of the people, they prophesy for so long as the inspiration of the Ruach comes upon them. The fact that they are Ruach-filled is immediately obvious, as it is in the case of Eldad and Medad, who "prophesied in the camp." Bemidbar 11:25-26 "And YAHWEH came down in a cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the Ruach that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the Ruach rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease. But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Ruach rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp." They are evidently recognizable by the entire community as Ruach filled.
Similarly, when Sha'ul encounters the band of prophets descending from a high place with their music, he is immediately infected by their Ruach filled enthusiasm; the Ruach of YAHWEH comes "mightily" upon him, he prophesies with them, and is "turned into another man," I ShemuEl 10:6,10 "And the Ruach of YAHWEH will come upon you, and you shall prophesy with them, and shall be turned into another man." vs 10 "And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Ruach of YAHWEH came upon him, and he prophesied among them." so that "when all who knew him before saw how he prophesied with the prophets, the people said to one another, "What has come over the son of Kish? Is Sha'ul also among the prophets?"
The infection of prophetic awe is even stronger in the case of messengers of Sha'ul, and finally of the king himself, when they see the company of prophets prophesying and ShemuEl standing as head over them; I ShemuEl 19:20-24 "And Sha'ul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and ShemuEl standing as appointed over them, the Ruach of YAHWEH was upon the messengers of Sha'ul, and they also prophesied. And when it was told Sha'ul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Sha'ul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are ShemuEl and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah. And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Ruach of YAHWEH was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before ShemuEl in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Sha'ul also among the prophets?" the Ruach passes over, as it were, to them against their will, so that the purpose of their mission is frustrated. On this occasion, we are given some indication of the more unusual manifestations of the prophetic Ruach; Sha'ul "stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before ShemuEl, and lay naked all that day and all that night."
The compelling power of the Anointed energy of YAHWEH's Ruach Ha Kodesh
The Ruach-filled prophet may move unexpectedly and wondrously from place to place under the compelling power of the Anointed energy, I Melechim (Kings)18:12 "And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Ruach of YAHWEH shall carry you whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he shall slay me: but I your servant Fear YAHWEH from my youth." and where the Ruach may have caught up a prophet and "cast him upon some mountain or into some valley," it may well be useless to seek him. II Melechim 2:16 "And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master: lest peradventure the Ruach of YAHWEH hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send."
It is the Ruach which seizes the prophet and enables him, in the Ruach and in visions, to see what is taking place at a great distance from where he stands. Yehezqel, closely identifying the "hand" and the "Ruach" of YAHWEH, declares that "He put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and the Ruach lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in visions of YAHWEH to Yerusalem." Yehezqel 8:3 "And He put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the Ruach lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of YAHWEH to Yerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looked toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoked to jealousy." Later, "the Ruach lifted me up and brought me in the vision by the Ruach of YAHWEH into Chaldea," Yehezqel 11:24 "Afterwards the Ruach took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Ruach of YAHWEH into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me." and under the influence of the Ruach he is brought in the tabernacle to receive the vision of its renewed splendor. Yehezqel 43:5 "So the Ruach took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the splendor of YAHWEH filled the house.
"The Ruach filled prophet is with superiority and distinction above others the "man of the Ruach." Hoshea (Hosea) 9:7 "The days of visitation are come, the days of recompense are come; Yisrael shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of your iniquity, and the great hatred."
