Balak's Offering, Balaam Pronounces A Blessing Instead Of A Curse

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:1

  1     ?  And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:2

  2    And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:3

  3    And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure YAHWEH will come to meet me: and whatsoever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to an high place.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:4

  4    And YAHWEH met Balaam: and he said to him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:5

  5    And YAHWEH put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus you shall speak.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:6

  6    And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:7

  7    And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Yacob, and come, defy Yisrael.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:8

  8    How shall I curse, whom YAHWEH has not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom YAHWEH has not defied?

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:9

  9    For from the top of the rocks I see Him, and from the hills I behold Him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:10

  10    Who can count the dust of Yacob, and the number of the fourth part of Yisrael? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

Balak's Disappointment, And Second Offering, Balaam Again Blesses Yisrael

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:11

  11    And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done unto me? I took you to curse mine enemies, and, behold, you have blessed them altogether.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:12

  12    And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which YAHWEH has put in my mouth?

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:13

  13     ?  And Balak said to him, Come, I pray you, with me unto another place, from whence you may see them: you shall see but the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:14

  14    And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:15

  15    And he said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet YAHWEH yonder.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:16

  16    And YAHWEH met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:17

  17    And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has YAHWEH spoken?

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:18

  18    And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, you son of Zippor:

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:19

  19    YAHWEH is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of adam, that he should repent: has he said, and shall he not do it? or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:20

  20    Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:21

  21    He has not beheld iniquity in Yacob, neither has he seen perverseness in Yisrael: YAHWEH his ABBA is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:22

  22    YAHWEH brought them out of Egypt; he has as it were the strength of an unicorn.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:23

  23    Surely there is no enchantment against Yacob, neither is there any divination against Yisrael: according to this time it shall be said of Yacob and of Yisrael, What has YAHWEH wrought!

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:24

  24    Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:25

  25    And Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:26

  26    But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Told not I you, saying, All that YAHWEH speaks, that I must do?

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:27

  27    And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I pray you, I will bring you unto another place; peradventure it will please YAHWEH that you may curse me them from thence.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:28

  28    And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looks toward Jeshimon.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:29

  29    And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

BEMIDBAR - NUMBERS 23:30

  30    And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
