Yahweh Will Fight The Battle For Yisrael
Fight The Fight Of Faith Of Faith
Content of Sermon Message Preached by Pastor David Roberts
A Solemn Charge To TimothiYah To Be Faithful
TIMOTHIYAH -1- TIMOTHY 6:11-16
11 But you, O man of YAHWEH, flee these things; and follow after
righteousness, being chaciyd, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on Eternal Life,
whereunto you are also called, and has professed a good profession
before many witnesses.
13 ¶ I give you commands in the sight of YAHWEH, who quickens all
things, and before YAHSHUA ha MessiYah, who before Pontius Pilate
witnessed a good confession;
14 That you keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until
the appearing of our Master YAHSHUA ha MessiYah:
15 Which in His times He shall show, who is the blessed and only
Potentate (Ruler), the King of kings, and Master of lords;
16 Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can
approach to; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and
power everlasting. It is so, and Let it be fulfilled.
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:7
7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his
spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a
shield went before him.
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:8
8 And he stood and cried to the armies of Yisrael, and said to them,
Why are you come out to set your battle in array? am not I a
Philistine, and you servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and
let him come down to me.
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:9
9 If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be
your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then
shall you be our servants, and serve us.
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:10
10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Yisrael this day;
give me a man, that we may fight together.
11 When Saul and all Yisrael heard those words of the Philistine,
they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
David Comes To The Camp
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:12
12 ¶ Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah,
whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among
men for an old man in the days of Saul.
13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the
battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were
Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third
Shammah.
14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep
at Bethlehem.
16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented
himself forty days.
17 And Jesse said to David his son, Take now for your brethren an
ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the
camp to your brethren;
18 And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and
look how your brethren are in shalom, and take their pledge.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Yisrael, were in the
valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20 And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a
keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came
to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted
for the battle.
21 For Yisrael and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army
against army.
22 And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the
carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion,
the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the
Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard
them.
24 And all the men of Yisrael, when they saw the man, fled from him,
and were sore afraid.
25 And the men of Yisrael said, Have you seen this man that is come
up? surely to defy Yisrael is he come up: and it shall be, that the
man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and
will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in
Yisrael.
26 And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall
be done to the man that kills this Philistine, and takes away the
reproach from Yisrael? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine,
that he should defy the armies of the living YAHWEH?
27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall
it be done to the man that kills him.
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and
Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why came you
down hither? and with whom have you left those few sheep in the
wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart;
for you are come down that you might see the battle.
29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
30 And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same
manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
David Undertakes To Fight Goliath
1 SHEMU'EL - 1 SAMUEL 17:31
31 ¶ And when the words were heard which David spoke, they
rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
32 And David said to Saul, Let no adam's heart fail because of him;
your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him: for you are but a youth, and he a man
of war from his youth.
34 And David said to Saul, Your servant kept his father's sheep, and
there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of
his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard,
and smote him, and slew him.
36 Your servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this
uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has
defied the armies of the living YAHWEH.
37 David said moreover, YAHWEH that delivered me out of the paw of
the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of
the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and YAHWEH
be with you.
38 And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put an helmet of
brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armor, and he assayed to go;
for he had not proved it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with
these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
40 ¶ And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth
stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he
had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew
near to the Philistine.
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man
that bare the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained
him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you come to me
with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give
your flesh to the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword,
and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the NAME
of YAHWEH of hosts, the Sovereign Ruler of the armies of Yisrael,
whom you have defied.
46 This day will YAHWEH deliver you into my hand; and I will smite
you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcases of
the host of the Philistines this day to the fowls of the air, and to
the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there
is a Sovereign Ruler in Yisrael.
47 And all this assembly shall know that YAHWEH saves not with sword
and spear: for the battle is YAHWEH's, and he will give you into our
hands.
48 ¶ And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and
drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the
army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and
slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone
sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a
stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no
sword in the hand of David.
EPHSIYAH - EPHESIANS 6:13
13 Wherefore take to you the whole armor of YAHWEH, that you may
be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with Truth, and
having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the message of shalom;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be
able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of yeshua, and the sword of the Ruach,
which is the Word of YAHWEH:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Ruach, and
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all
kidushim;
QORINTYAH -2- CORINTHIANS 10:3-6
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through
YAHWEH to the pulling down of strong holds;
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of YAHWEH, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of ha MessiYah;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your
obedience is fulfilled.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:1
The tyrant Antiochus, sitting in state with his counselors on a
certain high place, and with his armed soldiers standing about him,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:2
ordered the guards to seize each and every Hebrew and to compel them
to eat pork and food sacrificed to idols.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:3
If any were not willing to eat defiling food, they were to be broken
on the wheel and killed.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:4
And when many persons had been rounded up, one man, Eleazar by name,
leader of the flock, was brought before the king. He was a man of
priestly family, learned in the torah, advanced in age, and known to
many in the tyrant's court because of his wisdom.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:5
When Antiochus saw him he said,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:6
"Before I begin to torture you, old man, I would advise you to save
yourself by eating pork,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:7
for I respect your age and your gray hairs. Although you have had
them for so long a time, it does not seem to me that you are a
philosopher when you observe the religion of the Yahudim.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:8
Why, when nature has granted it to us, should you abhor eating the
very excellent meat of this animal?
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:9
It is senseless not to enjoy delicious things that are not shameful,
and wrong to spurn the gifts of nature.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:10
It seems to me that you will do something even more senseless if, by
holding a vain opinion concerning the truth, you continue to despise
me to your own hurt.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:11
Will you not awaken from your foolish philosophy, dispel your futile
reasonings, adopt a mind appropriate to your years, philosophize
according to the truth of what is beneficial,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:12
and have compassion on your old age by honoring my humane advice?
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:13
For consider this, that if there is some power watching over this
religion of yours, it will excuse you from any transgression that
arises out of compulsion."
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:14
When the tyrant urged him in this fashion to eat meat unlawfully,
Eleazar asked to have a word.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:15
When he had received permission to speak, he began to address the
people as follows:
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:16
"We, O Antiochus, who have been persuaded to govern our lives by
YAHWEH's torah, think that there is no compulsion more powerful than
our obedience to the torah.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:17
Therefore we consider that we should not transgress it in any
respect.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:18
Even if, as you suppose, our torah were not truly YAHWEH's and we
had wrongly held it to be YAHWEH's, not even so would it be right
for us to invalidate our reputation for piety.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:19
Therefore do not suppose that it would be a petty sin if we were to
eat defiling food;
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:20
to transgress the torah in matters either small or great is of equal
seriousness,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:21
for in either case the torah is equally despised.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:22
You scoff at our philosophy as though living by it were irrational,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:23
but it teaches us self-control, so that we master all pleasures and
desires, and it also trains us in courage, so that we endure any
suffering willingly;
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:24
it instructs us in justice, so that in all our dealings we act
impartially, and it teaches us meekness, so that with proper
reverence we worship the only real YAHWEH.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:25
"Therefore we do not eat defiling food; for since we believe that
the torah was established by YAHWEH, we know that in the nature of
things the Creator of the world in giving us the torah has shown
mercy toward us.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:26
He has permitted us to eat what will be most suitable for our lives,
but he has forbidden us to eat meats that would be contrary to this.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:27
It would be tyrannical for you to compel us not only to transgress
the torah, but also to eat in such a way that you may deride us for
eating defiling foods, which are most hateful to us.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:28
But you shall have no such occasion to laugh at me,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:29
nor will I transgress the sacred oaths of my ancestors concerning
the keeping of the torah,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:30
not even if you gouge out my eyes and burn my entrails.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:31
I am not so old and cowardly as not to be young in reason on behalf
of meekness.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:32
Therefore get your torture wheels ready and fan the fire more
vehemently!
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:33
I do not so pity my old age as to break the ancestral torah by my
own act.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:34
I will not play false to you, O torah that trained me, nor will I
renounce you, beloved self-control.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:35
I will not put you to shame, wise reason, nor will I reject you,
honored office of the kohen and knowledge of the torah.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:36
You, O king, shall not stain the honorable mouth of my old age, nor
my long life lived by the torah.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:37
The fathers will receive me as pure, as one who does not fear your
violence even to death.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 5:38
You may tyrannize the unrighteous, but you shall not dominate my
religious principles either by word or by deed."
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:1
When Eleazar in this manner had made eloquent response to the
exhortations of the tyrant, the guards who were standing by dragged
him violently to the instruments of torture.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:2
First they stripped the old man, who remained adorned with the
gracefulness of his meekness.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:3
And after they had tied his arms on each side they scourged him,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:4
while a herald opposite him cried out, "Obey the king's commands!"
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:5
But the courageous and noble man, as a true Eleazar, was unmoved, as
though being tortured in a dream;
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:6
yet while the old man's eyes were raised to heaven, his flesh was
being torn by scourges, his blood flowing, and his sides were being
cut to pieces.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:7
And though he fell to the ground because his body could not endure
the agonies, he kept his reason upright and unswerving.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:8
One of the cruel guards rushed at him and began to kick him in the
side to make him get up again after he fell.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:9
But he bore the pains and scorned the punishment and endured the
tortures.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:10
And like a noble athlete the old man, while being beaten, was
victorious over his torturers;
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:11
in fact, with his face bathed in sweat, and gasping heavily for
breath, he amazed even his torturers by his courageous spirit.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:12
At that point, partly out of pity for his old age,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:13
partly out of sympathy from their acquaintance with him, partly out
of admiration for his endurance, some of the king's retinue came to
him and said,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:14
"Eleazar, why are you so irrationally destroying yourself through
these evil things?
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:15
We will set before you some cooked meat; save yourself by pretending
to eat pork."
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:16
But Eleazar, as though more bitterly tormented by this counsel,
cried out:
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:17
"May we, the children of Abraham, never think so basely that out of
cowardice we feign a role unbecoming to us!
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:18
For it would be irrational if we, who have lived in accordance with
truth to old age and have maintained in accordance with torah the
reputation of such a life, should now change our course
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:19
become a pattern of impiety to the young, in becoming an example of
the eating of defiling food.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:20
It would be shameful if we should survive for a little while and
during that time be a laughing stock to all for our cowardice,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:21
and if we should be despised by the tyrant as unmanly, and not
protect YAHWEH's torah even to death.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:22
Therefore, O children of Abraham, die nobly for your faith!
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:23
And you, guards of the tyrant, why do you delay?"
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:24
When they saw that he was so courageous in the face of the
afflictions, and that he had not been changed by their compassion,
the guards brought him to the fire.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:25
There they burned him with maliciously contrived instruments, threw
him down, and poured stinking liquids into his nostrils.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:26
When he was now burned to his very bones and about to expire, he
lifted up his eyes to YAHWEH and said,
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:27
"You know, O YAHWEH, that though I might have saved myself, I am
dying in burning torments for the sake of the torah.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:28
Be merciful to your people, and let our punishment suffice for them.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:29
Make my blood their purification, and take my life in exchange for
theirs."
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:30
And after he said this, the kodesh man died nobly in his tortures,
and by reason he resisted even to the very tortures of death for the
sake of the torah.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:31
Admittedly, then, devout reason is sovereign over the emotions.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:32
For if the emotions had prevailed over reason, we would have
testified to their domination.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:33
But now that reason has conquered the emotions, we properly
attribute to it the power to govern.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:34
And it is right for us to acknowledge the dominance of reason when
it masters even external agonies. It would be ridiculous to deny it.
MAKABIM -4- MACCABEES 6:35
And I have proved not only that reason has mastered agonies, but
also that it masters pleasures and in no respect yields to them.
The Yisraelites Murmur, Mosheh Comforts Them
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:10-14
10 ¶ And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Yisrael lifted
up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and
they were sore afraid: and the children of Yisrael cried out to
YAHWEH.
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:11
11 And they said to Mosheh, Because there were no graves in Egypt,
have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore have you
dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:12
12 Is not this the word that we did tell you in Egypt, saying, Let
us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better
for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the
wilderness.
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:13
13 And Mosheh said to the people, Fear you not, stand still, and see
the yeshua of YAHWEH, which HE will show to you today: for the
Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more
forever.
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:14
14 YAHWEH shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
YAHWEH Fights for Yisrael
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:24
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch YAHWEH looked to
the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the
cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
SHEMOTH - EXODUS 14:25
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily:
so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Yisrael;
for YAHWEH fights for them against the Egyptians.
YEHOSHUA BEN NUN - JOSHUA 23:5-10
5 And YAHWEH your ABBA, he shall expel them from before you, and
drive them from out of your sight; and you shall possess their land,
as YAHWEH your ABBA has promised to you.
6 Be you therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is
written in the book of the torah of Mosheh, that you turn not aside
therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
7 That you come not among these nations, these that remain among
you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to
swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves to them:
8 But cleave to YAHWEH your ABBA, as you have done to this day.
9 For YAHWEH has driven out from before you great nations and
strong: but as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to
this day.
10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for YAHWEH your ABBA, he
it is that fights for you, as he has promised you.
YAHWEH the Almighty One will fight for you
SIRACH 4:25-29
25 Never speak against the truth, but be mindful of your
ignorance.
26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, and do not try to stop
the current of a river.
27 Do not subject yourself to a foolish fellow, nor show partiality
to a ruler.
28 Strive even to death for the truth and YAHWEH the Almighty One
will fight for you.
29 Do not be reckless in your speech, or sluggish and remiss in your
deeds.
